Associate in Science (AS) AS Pre-Professional Program (SPPP)

The Associate in Science (AS) degree is awarded when you complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of classes, including the specified general education requirements for the degree, with a grade-point average of at least 2.0. Coursework focuses on math and science classes: these are especially appropriate for careers in pharmacy, allied health and veterinary medicine, for example. HCC faculty also advise to the  Associate of Science Pre-Professional Program (SPPP), which is designed to provide a strong science background for pre-professional programs. The AS degree readily transfers to a four-year institution: working with advisors from both HCC and your desired university will ensure that each course you take will move you towards your desired bachelor's degree.

–One of the science courses selected must include at least one with a laboratory experience.
Quantitative Reasoning	6 credit hours

Additional AS Requirements	12-15 credit hours
Select courses from headings in the Core Categories &/or Foreign Language.  At least 6 hours must be selected from Quantitative Reasoning/or Natural Sciences.  Choose hours to satisfy pre-major requirements at the institution to which the student is transferring.
Digital Literacy:  A student must pass an approved 3 credit hour digital literacy course or pass the IC3 Fast-Track exam in order to meet the digital literacy requirement for graduation.+	0-3 credit hours

Students are advised to choose hours to satisfy pre-major requirements at the institution to which they are transferring.  Students who fulfull the digital literacy requirement by passing an approved 3 credit hour course will only need to take 12 credit hours of electives.
(1) Cultural Studies:  At least one course within the 45 credit hour general education block must be selected form the identified Cultural Studies course list.   Cultural studies courses

A course used to fulfill one competency cannot be used to fulfill another competency. Developmental/remedial courses (courses numbered 001-099) cannot be used to satisfy graduation requirements.
