Hopkinsville Community College celebrates its graduates in a commencement ceremony each May at the James E. Bruce Convention Center with over 1,800 supporters in attendance. If you complete your requirements in either the summer or fall semester/term, you are eligible and encouraged to celebrate your accomplishment by participating in the May commencement ceremony. In fact, you can participate in the ceremony if you have 6 hours or less of coursework to complete. NOTE: Coursework must be complete by the next consecutive summer or fall semester.
You must apply for a diploma, degree, or certificate within the designated timeframe. A credential application form is available online or in the Administration Building commons area. This application must be signed by your advisor and be received in the Admissions and Records Office on or before the posted date. The deadline for a May degree is February; August degree is June; and a December degree is September. These dates are published on the college's academic calendar.
Graduates wear caps, gowns, and tassels (tassels are worn on the left side of the mortarboard cap). However, some students will receive embellishments such as stoles, honorary necklaces, etc., representing student leadership in various student organizations and clubs. These individuals are encouraged to proudly wear these honors. Students are requested not to wear flip-flops and ladies please leave your hand-bags at home or give to a family member or friend for safe-keeping during the ceremony. HCC is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Guests should dress according to their own personal comfort level. Casual and business attire is perfectly acceptable.
Caps and gowns may be purchased from the bookstore located in the Academic Building. A packet of information will be sent to all eligible graduates via U.S. mail and email. You may also choose to visit the bookstore for details.
A commencement ceremony practice is held at the James E. Bruce Convention Center at noon on the day of the ceremony. All participants are encouraged to attend. Four-year university representatives are invited to set up booths in the lobby and graduates considering transfer are encouraged to make important contacts and gather information.
Graduates will receive a diploma cover during the ceremony. Actual credentials will be mailed to students approximately six weeks after commencement. Please make sure to have current address information on file in the Admissions and Records office.
