Nursing Assistant

Open the door to jobs and a future in nursing.

Want to work as a nurse but aren’t ready to finish a nursing program? Start here! As a nursing assistant, you’ll perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a licensed or registered nurse. Multiple job opportunities are available once you have completed the class and passed the state registry exam.

What do nursing assistants do?

You play a critical role helping with the hygiene, comfort, exercise, safety, and other needs of patients. You lift and move patients, observe and report client conditions, collect specimens for tests, and give emotional comfort.

To become a nursing assistant in a long-term care facility, you will need to complete a three-credit course focusing on communication, infection control, safety, residents’ rights, and basic nursing skills. We offer the following courses:

  • Nursing Assistant Skills 1  NAA or MNA 100
  • Nursing Assistant Skills 2  NAA 115
  • Each Nurse Aide student is also responsible for purchasing Liability Insurance for $11.00 through the business office.

Students must pass the state required Nurse Aide exam to be placed on the state registry.  This exam is available on campus and costs $75.00.  This fee is the responsibility of the student and is not included in tuition charges.

State Testing Guidelines are covered in your nurse aide class.

Nurse Aide State Registry Test Dates: Nurse Aide State Registry testing is offered at the Maysville, Rowan and Licking Valley campuses. Please call the Program Coordinator for test dates.

What other options are available?

  • Kentucky Medication Aide  KMA 100

This class will provide certification for you to disperse medications to patients helping you to advance in the healthcare field. You must be a high school graduate or have a GED, worked as a CNA for at least 6 months, which can be waived with the consent of the instructor, to be eligible for the KMA class.  After completion of the class with a "C" or higher, you will be eligible to take the Kentucky Medication Aide certification test.  KMA classes are available on the Maysville and Cynthiana campuses.
